Secret Weapon: Nexus Pro-Mend Split End Mender Daily Conditioner & Creme

I have that champagne problem where my hair seems to immediately grow out and lose its shape the minute I leave the stylist after a trim. And because I have long hair that I have to subject to SERIOUS heat styling from time to time, the ends look like a blonde/dark brown pile of dried and split straw. My ends, in short, usually look a hot mess. This is frustratingly apparent when I’m sitting in LA traffic and the Socal sun hits them just so - so I can see how awful and split they are. On a whim, I picked up some Nexxus Pro-Mend Conditioner and Creme (they came together in one pack, on sale at Target) because I’ve read rave reviews about how the products seal your splitties back up, like surgical hair glue.

Now, it’s been awhile since I took 9th grade bio, but I do remember my teacher, Mr. Hedin, telling us that hair is pretty much dead and that there is no such thing as “repairing it” with special shampoos and conditioners. He had a pretty amazing head of hair by the way - so amazing that he actually tugged on it on the last day of school to prove to us it was REALLY his and not the toupee we all thought it was.

Well, dead ends or not, after about a week of use, my hair was already showing signs of “recovery” - my ends are now smooth, sleek and, most importantly, whole. This might be giving me a false sense of security and just allowing me to procrastinate even more on regular trips to the stylist but I think I’ve made my peace with that.

I travel so much that more often than not, my hair has that awesome stale airplane smell. Zexy! My plane-hopping also means I always have a travel toilet bag ready. I was in a crunch on my recent trip to San Francisco and had to pick up some travel-sized conditioner for color-treated hair (ombre still takes upkeep, surprise surprise) . That’s how I discovered Nexxus Color Ensure. My biggest complaint about conditioners for treated hair is that they do little for the dryness that comes with coloring. This conditioner is light enough without being heavy, smells lovely (airplane head be gone!) and in the AM, my ends still feel silky. I’m pretty sure I will spring for the full bottle (still cheaper than the conditioner I use now!) once I’m out of my current stuff.
