Fashion Faves from Oscars 2014

When it comes to the Oscars, red is a clear winner on Jennifer Lawrence (remember her Calvin Klein moment in 2011?). The peplum, the trendy back necklace, windswept cropped hair… it even looked good when this happened.

Charlize Theron in a dark Dior number.

By the end of the red carpet coverage, I was SO over the nude trend but except on Kate Hudson who triple-trended it with an American Hustle-worthy neckline and structured cape.

I went back and forth about this pastel blue custom gown on Lupita Nyong’o. But I’ve decided that I like it because Lupita.

June Squibb sparkles in Tadashi Shoji.

No man-bun but Jared Leto’s black-and-white combo and ombre’ beachwaves win him double.

And best-dressed bump goes to Kerry Washington.

Elegance by Karen O.

I’m sure the prez would approve, Kevin Spacey.

Loving Lupita

Oscar nominee Lupita N’yongo continues to wow fashion-lovers with her forward ensembles and bold sartorial stylings. Couple that with her down-to-earth humility over already earning an Oscar nod after her first (!) major film, the Mexican-Kenyan thespian is, unsurprisingly, the one everyone is rooting for - and watching - come Oscars Sunday.

Below, one of my favorites from her latest walks down the red carpet, this time at an event at the Chateau Marmont. On anyone else, the blue eyeshadow, heels and bold lip would have been a little too matchy-matchy for the cut-out sheath but looks luscious against Lupita’s flawless complexion.

Love This Look: Kate Hudson at the Decades of Glamour Event by Bulgari

Nothing says “Spring is coming” to me more than a pop of yellow in an ensemble. Kate Hudson looks casually chic and oh-so-appropriately spring-ey in a yellow blouse and white skirt. Loving her topknot and winged eyeliner for the perfect amount of glam for the evening event.

Fashion Faves from the Golden Globes 2014

Awards season is in full swing, so naturally my red carpet radar has been going OFF. Nothing compares to actually being there, in-the-flesh on-the-carpet and seeing these Hollywood beauties up close in real life like I got to do last year, but I could still appreciate the dazzling duds being worked through the press line, parties, and beyond. Below are my favorites from last night’s Globes.

Lupita Nyong’o killed it with color.

Margot Robbie stuns in a high slit.

Beckinsale ballin’ in mermaid-cut sequins and sparkle.

I’m a sucker for structure and boldness and so is Lizzy Caplan.

Olivia Wilde makes everyone green with envy in this bump-shaping Gucci.

Elegant and not the least bit scandalous, Kerry Washington rocks off-white on the bright red carpet.

Whole Lotta Crop

Nothing delights more than a super-trendy item purchased on megasale. Over the weekend, I scored this Sparkle & Fade velvet cross-backed crop top for only $5 at an Urban Outfitters sale rack.

This past summer, plenty of celebs got croppy rocking the ’90s-era trend in bright florals and rich textures with high-waisted pants and fitted skirts of varying length. The question now is how will I rock my crop without it looking like a throwback gone wrong? I adore some butterfly clips and Jagged Little Pill-era Alanis. I just don’t want to be stuck looking like I’m en route to her show in 1995. Suggestions? I’m thinking either faux leather mini-skirt or mid-length fitted skirt for a more conservative look. After all, isn’t “cropped top” just a polite way of saying “belly shirt”?

Love this Look: Kate Hudson in Gucci

Kate Hudson bares a sleek physique in this blush-toned and sequined cut-out Gucci number at the LACMA Art + Film Gala. I love how the cutouts emphasize her waist and show off her back.

Love this Look: Rooney Mara

Reddish or burgundy eyeshadow is a tough one. One the one hand, it can look incredibly on-trend, especially given the hotness of oxblood right now. On the other hand, it can go into True Blood vamp territory faster than you can say “oxblood.” But Rooney Mara’s burgundy lids, which she rocked at the New York Film Festival, are oh-so-perfect for fall. Loving.

Emmys 2013 Fashion Faves

A lot of lace, a little embellishment. Well, a lot of embellishment. The red carpet fashion at the Emmys did not disappoint. Below, a few of my favorite looks from TV’s big night.

image

Easily my favorite look of the night. Heidi Klum high-neck and sequined it in Versace Versace Versace.

image

Michelle Dockery rocks burgundy (or is it oxblood?) and red.

image

Elisabeth Moss continues the black-and-white trend with platinum chopped locks.

image

Funny woman Mindy Kaling looking rather un-Lahiri-like in this elegant, somewhat conservative ensemble.

image

Sally Draper (Kiernan Shipka) is growing up but looking so adorable and age-appropriate.

image

I’m not a huge fan of bridal-inspired looks on the red carpet (I mean… why?), but Malin Ackerman’s grey/white confection pulls it off with aplomb.

image

Mad Men’s Linda Cardellini looking mad hot in this rosette’d Donna Karan number.

image

Anna Gunn breaking rad in this black/blush combo gown by Romona Keveza, even Skyler-haters can’t hate.

Sleek and long-sleeved Kate Mara, looking fierce!

Celebs Rock Fab Fashion Trends at Comic-Con ‘13

Cosplay they did not, but celebs at Comic-Con did work some of my favorite fashion and beauty trends of the year. Below, a recap from the most colorful entertainment convention of the year.

Sexy Cutouts. Peekaboo shoulders, midriffs and backs made appearances on the red carpet and press lines.

Hot Plaits. Braids were abundant on the likes of the Jennifers Lawrence and Morrison and Yvonne Strahovski.

Fresh Florals. Spring sprung and went a few months ago but the blooms have stayed.

Bold Prints. Bold patterns on expertly-cut dresses pop on the red carpet instead of veering into wallpaper territory.

Black and White. The classic combo getsdressed up and dressed down.

(*side note: Loving Aimee Teegarden’s moddy baby blue platforms!)

BET Awards was my time to get a little funkier and edgier. I’d been sitting on this dress - not literally - for a bit and though it’d go kinda balleristic (yep - “baller”istic; you’re welcome) with a Gwen Stefani-esque pompadour (complete with mini-braids on the sides, although you cannot tell from the picture) and my black cage DV by Dolce Vita shoots (shoe-boots; not pictured). While the frock is nude, the material was hardly see-through so I didn’t have to worry about underthings showing. Studded shoulder dress, Elizabeth & James. Jewelry, Forever 21. View high resolution
