Love this Look
The shapes, the geometry, the strong shoulder - I thought this look was on its way out but I’m glad it isn’t! Paired with some equally architectural “shoots” (shoot-boots) makes for one avant-garde but still wearable ensemble. Proof that you don’t need a meat dress to make a statement. Balmain Spring 2012.

Emmys 2011: Fashionising
If you happened to catch the red carpet coverage last night, you probably thought you were watching breaking news of a crime scene since almost every star gracing the turf decided to wear some shade of red or coral. Not that I’m complaining: red is glamorous, sexy, dangerous even. It’s also universally flattering. Thankfully, not all was Sunday bloody Sunday. Below some of my favorite...

Recessionista Replacements
Everyone is feeling the Great Recession, hardcore. When I’m in a tight spot and on a budget, it’s necessary to cut costs when it comes to beauty products - and really, when am I NOT on a budget? Yep, that’s right. Never. Below is a list of pricey stuff I sub out; I’ll add a list of Recessionista Irreplaceables (things I refuse to scrimp on until, well, I absolutely have to)...

Beauty Tips from Maria Menounos →
I’m digging Allure Magazine’s new Beauty Diaries feature and in this one, Extra co-host/entertainment reporter Maria Menounos shares some of her beauty tips. Like Maria, I re-use my fake eyelashes all the time, even the cheap drugstore ones. I’ve tried a few different brands on both ends of the price spectrum and only one brand REALLY makes a difference for the price (if you must...

WatchWatch
I’ve blogged before about my massive girlcrush on model Chrissy Teigen because of her candid twitterfeed and her (much like me like-minded) obsession with food. It must be an Asian thing (she’s half-Thai). Here she is in a video interview during Fashion’s Night Out at Nine West to support Fashion Targets Breast Cancer. Straight dudes, there is a close-up shot of bewbz somewhere...

NYFW: Starry Starry-Eyed →
I love this midnight-blue/black eye makeup from Rodarte’s show, courtesy of NARS. I usually attempt to do this by first applying shadow a concentrated amount of shadow on a flat brush, applying by following the shape of my (closed) eye and then diffusing the lines to make a smokey gradient by using a blending brush like MAC 217. Too much of a heavy hand with this stuff and you’ll get...

Alice & Trixie Martine Eyelet Dress on Swirl →
I love how feminine and conservative yet fashion forward eyelet prints can be. The cut of this dress is gorgeous and if you have $129 to spare (and a Swirl account - one of the best and more reasonable sample sites out there, IMHO), invest in this dress. It looks perfect for a California kind of fall: mostly sunny (3/4 sleeves) with a slight chance of rain (short enough so you can wear rain boots...

Rachel Bilson Joins Rachel Zoe, Others as Guest... →
TV starlet (remember “The OC”? She’ll also be in the upcoming “Hart of Dixie” on the CW, premiering Sept. 26) and fashionista Rachel Bilson joins Rachel Zoe and newly-added Olivia Palermo and Byrdie Bell as a guest editor for online shopping haven, Piperlime. In the past couple of years, I’ve really appreciated how Rachel has cultivated a personal style...

Gaga goes Bare, Is Now a Surfer
More Gaga goodness: the Lady goes barefaced on the cover of Harper’s Bazaar and makes a powerful statement about going without maquillage: “Whether I’m wearing lots of makeup or no makeup, I’m always the same person inside.” She’s also a surfer now! Win win. via

Something Fishy: Fishtail Braid Video Tutorial →
From Giuliana Rancic’s FabFitFun website, a video tutorial on how to re-create the fishtail braid look she wore recently on E! News. I’m still practicing mine. Skip to about the middle of the video if you just want to learn how to do the braid.

Liner Notes
Eyeliner is a must-have, must-need for me. It’s also the first makeup product that I’ve ever used regularly, my love affair having started with a 99-cent Wet ‘n Wild kohl pencil bought at Long’s Drugs. And today, I haven’t veered too far from my drugstore cosmetic cowgirl roots: in my “eyeliner/mascara” bag (yep, that stuff needs an extra bag - don’t...

Designer Bobby Pins? At Target? Sure, Why Not
Missoni for Target comes out this month (September 13) and along with a slew of clothes and accessories are Missoni bobby pins. From this review via Huffington Post and Stylelist, they’re both fashionable and functional. Still, $6.99 for bobby pins? I may have to sit on this one. via

September's Must-Have Beauty Products →
I can’t believe September is already here and with it, the thick-as-encyclopedias fashion magazines and the opportunity to change up your beauty routine for the season. BellaSugar just posted their September Must-Have Beauty Products. Items I would totally try from the list: Kiehl’s Superbly Restorative Argan Dry Oil and that perfect-for-the-season pumpkin/burnt sienna colored nail...

Scarfing
Meow! I’m still stuck on getting my thin summer scarf fix, this time in a leopard print. Leopard gets a bad rep because depending on the leoparded item, you’re either cute, kitschy and chic or one printed pair of leggings away from Cougarville. I found this one at a random store in Burbank on my way to Buffalo Wild Wings. Because, really, where else would I be going? In hindsight, I...

"In the Dressing Room" with Cat Deeley
I just discovered “In the Dressing Room” a series of short beauty-centric web videos hosted by one of my TV host idols/girl crushes, Cat Deeley of “So You Think You Can Dance.” As someone who’s had to self-style for the camera, I really appreciate that Cat does so willingly, despite her being on a network show where she could easily opt for a professional. I...

Pumped Up
I’m a little apprehensive about anything T-strap (or any shoes with straps in general) because of the cankle factor. Strap the wrong pair on and, magically, your ankles disappear. Or maybe it’s just me because I’m not that tall, despite what people see on TV. The first reaction I usually get from people when they meet me IRL is, “Wow, you’re a lot shorter than I...

R2-D2 Ice Cube Trays (ThinkGeek)
Whatever you think of the “changes” being made to the upcoming “Star Wars” Blu-ray release (September 16), put those aside for a minute and marvel at these adorable R2-D2 Ice Cube Trays. Over a year and a half ago in Tokyo, I found a really awesome R2 soy sauce dispenser but ended up giving it to my Star Wars fanatic friend who hasn’t taken him out of the package. You...

A Band of Horses on My End-of-Summer Scarf
I nabbed this scarf from a random fashion shingle on Sawtelle Boulevard - basically a little Little Tokyo in West L.A. that I stop by whenever I can, usually to grab shishito peppers from the market and load up on Japanese fashion magazines. Summer scarves are great for adding a little modesty to an otherwise sexy tank-top and skinnies outfit. The print on this one caught my eye because it...

Mango "City Wear" Collection →
I’ve never been a huge fan of high street retailer Mango because I’ve always felt like I have to be European and probably a Cruz sister (Monica? Penelope? I’m neither!) to look good in their stuff. I just don’t have the same affinity for their clothes like I do, say, for Zara where I only to have to pretend to be Spanish some of the time. However, Mango’s City Wear...
