Victoria's Secret Fashion Show Hits a High; A Look...
Did you watch the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show last night? Well, at least some of you did - according to Deadline, the models-in-lingerie-and-musicians spectacle hit a ratings high, averaging about 10.3 million viewers. Fashion TV has an article on the history of the yearly event and some of the winged beauties who’ve flown, er, strutted down the runway for it.

Not Forgetting Mila Kunis
I’m leaving for one of my favorite places in the world (Hawaii) very soon and to help inspire my packing choices, I’ve turned to one of my favorite modern comedies in the world, Forgetting Sarah Marshall. In it, Jason Segel plays a heartbroken TV theme composer who, after getting unceremoniously dumped naked by his actress girlfriend, goes to the North Shore of Oahu for some R&R....

Love this Look →
The first (and now that I think of it ONLY) leather jacket I have ever bought was the one you see in the post below, a Rock & Republic fitted military style lamb’s leather piece that I found at Loehmann’s for a fraction of the retail price (which was like over $600!). I’ve worn through my fair share of cheap overcoats but a good leather jacket pretty much defines...

Winter Essentials
Contrary to popular belief, it can and does get cold in southern California. Above, some of my winter essentials, namely the Ugg Grey Cardy knit boots. I know I know, LA chick with Uggs is almost as cliche as one with a miniature dog in her purse, but I plunked down for these almost two years and haven’t looked back since, even when some people claim I look like I’m wearing socks...

La La La La La: A Fashion Homage to "Daria"
There are a few reasons to feel badly for teenagers today. First of all, every puberty-driven misstep is now chronicled on Facebook. The SAT is now out of 2400 points. And, of course, they’ve never grown up with the genius that is MTV’s Daria. Here’s a collage homage to my favorite cartoon angst-ridden teenager and her BFF Jane, the latter whose low key quasi-goth style may...

LNOA: Opening of Chill @ the W Hotel
‘Tis the season to turn pools into ice rinks so my friend Raychael and I made it out to the W Hotel in Westwood last week for the opening of Chill, see indie/chillwave band Toro y Moi rock the stage and contemplate eating free cupcakes. I’m not really cool enough to get invited to events such as this on the regular so I had to capitalize on the opportunity with a solid outfit. It was...

Beauty Culture at the Annenberg Space for... →
I checked out the Beauty Culture exhibit at the Annenberg Space for Photography. Here’s what I thought (posted on my other website, which you should bookmark if you haven’t already). If you’re in the Los Angeles area, be sure to check it out before it’s done, Nov. 27th.

Get Crafty →
I’m not really the crafting type, although I did go through a knitting phase during college. I think it was the cool, hipsterish thing to do at the time and I actually made a few scarves that, shockingly, didn’t look like yarn amoebas. If you’re the crafty type, log onto Oh Happy Day for holiday crafts ideas, like Christmas advent calendars (see below).

Beauty Products I'm Thankful For
Thanksgiving is a time to show appreciation for those you love. For the beauty-obsessed, this not only means family members and friends but also products. Here are some of the essentials I’m giving thanks for all season long: Target Cucumber Exfoliating Wipes (not pictured). I will always choose being outside, in the ocean, paddling my arms out on a surfboard over being a hamster on the...

20% Off at Skinstore →
No one is paying me to post this; I’m just sharing this out of my love for good deals and Skinstore. Enter GIFT20 at checkout and save 20% off every department. Skinstore is the online skincare/beauty haven where I scored my Clarisonic Classic sonic face brush at a reduced price and I swear by this thing: it vibrates through your pores, shaking out excess makeup not cleaned up by just...

Geekista Eats: Thanksgiving Stuffing Recipe →
Online culture website Slate recently posted this recipe for cornbread stuffing. I’ve never been a huge fan of turkey on Thanksgiving, but always a fan of the side dishes, namely stuffing. And while the kind I make is Stove Top and involves little more than water and butter, this way-more-ambitious recipe is tempting.

Jessica Gomes is Everywhere (in Australia)
Dubbed the new face of Australia, Jessica Gomes is heating up two magazine covers down under in December. For Madison’s  end of year issue, Gomes talks about her status as a so-called curvy model, aspiring to be the first ethnic woman on the cover of the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue and why she slimmed down (doesn’t matter; she’s hot either way), while in Maxim Australia,...

Proving that she really is the coolest mom ever, Gwen Stefani talked to Yahoo!’s This Week in Mom (hosted by another awesome mom and my friend Diane Mizota) about her new Target clothing line for kids, Harajuku Mini. Gwen’s been my fashion idol since I was in middle school and while her style has evolved into one of a quasi-chic international fashion-plate, I like that she’s...

Geekista Eats: Pumpkin Pie Coffee
I refuse to believe that just because it’s not October anymore that pumpkin is now passe’. But since we seem to be skipping over Thanksgiving this year (seriously, where are all the Thanksgiving ads? You know things are bad when we go straight to Chrismukkah), the discontinuation of pumpkin-flavored caffeinated beverages seems especially aggressive - and jarring. Here’s the...

Behind the scenes pictures of models Chanel Iman, Miranda Kerr, more at the ultimate mainstream fashion show. I’m totally obsessed with shows about modeling, as evidenced by my box collection of MTV’s 8th & Ocean. During bouts of jetlag whenever I’m in Asia, I load up on Fashion TV (FTV), an international channel that’s basically the ESPN of haute couture. Since FTV...

LNOA: Meeting Time
I have these broad swimmer/surfer shoulders which make me hesitant to wear anything with shoulder embellishments for fear of being mistaken for Patrick Chung of the Patriots (yes, I named Chung because he is the first Asian in the NFL who comes to mind). Still, when I found this Elizabeth & James frock, I couldn’t resist: I’m a sucker for well-placed grommets on a sleek sheath. So...

LNOA: 'The Muppets' Premiere.
The rainy weather meant having to keep my gray pleather moto jacket ON the whole time I covered The Muppets premiere in Hollywood. But I’m okay with that: I love this jacket because it’s flexible (not tight in the sleeves, elbows, shoulders) but also somewhat fitted. The only drawback was I couldn’t show the pink/grey sequined tee I had on underneath, and thus go outfit-to-outfit...

From Style Bistro: How to Dress for a Fall Wedding →
I’m either lucky or have no friends, but I don’t have one wedding to attend this season. I find this a blessing because as much fun as weddings are, they can also be stressful affairs financially, for the guests and the bride and groom. But just in case you plan on doing the YMCA at someone’s nuptials, Style Bistro’s (one of my favorite sites) has run down a few appropriate...

Victoria's Secret Angel Diet Revealed via... →
For Angel Adriana Lima, the VS diet consists of powdered egg protein shakes and not eating solid foods for nine days. I can barely last without solid food for nine minutes. Thus, the ONLY mitigating factor to me being a Victoria’s Secret Angel (clearly).

Hoodie Bandit
Some people collect sexy lingerie. I, on the other hand, collect hoodies. My collection ranges in size from fitted and cute size XS, to large in charge in prints and sizes that would make Jesse Pinkman in seasons 1-3 of Breaking Bad proud. The latter are for the days I go surfing and immediately want to wrap myself up in what amounts to an oversized blanket with sleeves once I get out of the...

Secret Weapons: Tresemme Products
I first discovered Tresemme products in high school, I think, mostly because I couldn’t get their commercial jingle out of my head: “Tresemme… Tresemme… ooh lala!” I can still hear it. So, of course, I immediately went to Rite Aid and bought some Tresemme. It’s moments like those that you realize how un-impervious we are to advertising and that marketers have us...

Geekista Eats: Breakfast Nachos
At my house, I have what I dub a Condiment Drawer. Mixed in with plastic measuring cups, clean dish towels, a cheese grater and other random kitchen knick-knacks is an entire collection of condiment packets gathered from store-bought sushi packs, Popeye’s and Vietnamese take out (where else would you get Sriracha To Go packets, a.k.a. the best thing ever invented!?). The Condiment Drawer can...

LNOA: Girly Time
My friend Erica has been in town the past few days and I wore this little fall-friendly get-up for lunch together, followed by a stop at The Painted Nail, the valley nail salon featured in Nail Files on TV Guide Network (more on The Painted Nail in a later post). Some people shun the whole “tank top visible bra look” because it straddles that very fine line between trampy and edgy....

BellaSugar shows you how to create the perfect messy-bun-chic updo. I usually find an updo much harder to do than styling my hair when it’s down but this one looks easy enough, especially since all you need is your fingers, styling spray, a hair tie and some bobby pins. WIN WIN WIN.
