Secret Weapon: MAC Nymphette Lipglass
Apply some in the center of your lips to make them stand out or look fuller. It’s not too glittery with just the right amount of goldish shimmer so it won’t wash you out if you have golden undertones in your skin. Also great for layering over a matte lipstick and for camera - I wear it often on shoots.

I click on this site - by a professional TV makeup artist - for tips on camera makeup and pictures of Kettle chips.
I don’t think I’ve met an Asian female who’s had at least one makeup horror story, usually involving a really perky saleswoman at a mall counter, a “smokey eye” request and a “black eye” result. Growing up, I could barely follow the one-look-fits-all makeup tutorials in magazines because they just weren’t written with the Asian face in mind....

Secret Weapon: Lumene Sensitive Touch Eye Makeup...
A makeup artist introduced this to me and I’ve been hooked mostly because it’s great for contact lense-wearers; is a reasonable price; and can be found at a regular corner CVS drugstore. I love products like these because you don’t have to make those special trips to the mall or makeup counter to nab it in a pinch, which happened when I used to snob out on this kind of stuff and...

What's the Brush?
Sephora online strikes again. Tokidoki Pittura Brush Set contains 3 basic brushes featuring a trio of the company’s adorable characters: Mozzarella, Adios Amigos, and Donutella. If there’s anything an amateur makeup enthusiast needs it’s a set of decent brushes, especially when it comes to eye makeup - somehow, the sponge part of those sponge tip apps manage to lose themselves,...
Pretty Palettes for (almost) Pennies
Sephora has some online-only steals on Collectible Travel Palettes (5 in all) by luxe make-up line Stila for $10 each. Great for the make-up hound on your holiday shopping list or maybe that co-worker from the office who you got as a Secret Santa but don’t know much about other than she’s a female. Or maybe get all 5 and use them as “emergency gifts,” a contingency plan...

Wonder what Badtz-Maru tastes like!
I don’t love sticking to one entire line of products (especially for hair) because I have a case of product infidelity and a jones to experiment. Still, these Redken products have longstanding spots on my shelf. A little goes a long way. Redken Woolshake 08 is a non-greasy spray gel texturizer that works without leaving residue or grime behind. At around $20/pop, it’s not the cheapest...
(C)Log this under “fun.” Also, “delightfully dorky.” Fun to wear with skinny pants and a raglan sweater. Pass on the chunky sweaters - these are chunk enough.

Lip and Balm
My go-to lip salve has been Rosebud Salve, especially since they started packaging it into an oh-so-convenient tube instead of the tin. But a make-up artist friend recently told me that with its petrolatum base, it’s actually drying rather than moisturizing in the long run. Her recommendation? Bonne Bell Lip Smacker. Dr. Pepper flavor, please?
For a body lotion, this one is just the right texture, smells divine and since it’s Burt’s, it’s made of 99% natural ingredients. Paraben-free. Even better? Avail at your local Target or drugstore.
